Serious congestion conditions have returned to haunt India’s largest container terminal at Jawahar Lal Nehru Port. According to an international agency report, the leading shippers are diverting their cargo to neighboring west coast ports like Pipavav and Mundra to avoid inordinate delays in the delivery of cargo.

Ship-breakers, heart-broken

Ship-breakers at Alang are heart-broken. The bone of contention is the proposed global initiative to move away from the “beaching method” to the dry-docking method. The introduction of dry-docking method would make Indian shipbreakers’ business unviable as it requires heavy investment. The code, adopted in Hong Kong last year, has to be ratified by at least 15 maritime nations
